Right so I've got to the end of the form and now collecting together all the extra bits of paper. I've rung DIAL for some help but there's a 2 month waitng list and I've been putting this off for long enough already, feeling a fraud etc etc. Anyway the only thing I'm not really sure about is whether or not to send a copy of my ATW report as this is about work and not living as such. Any advice on what to send and what not send would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sara

Hiya Sara
Send anything that supports your claim , including personal diaries , letters from GP's / Consultants Occupational Therapists etc .

Look at the DLA Fact sheet to see what they are looking for.

Depends if the report conflicts with what you are really like and what you have put on your form

Also make sure you have put lots of examples of the needs you have in all the white space on the form .
It is sometimes useful for a carer or partner to write a statement of what they do for you and include it .

The Decision maker sits at a desk and can only come to a decision based on evidence that you send them ..

All the best

Rich :)

Hi Rich,

Knew I could rely on a sensible reply from you! I've got a fair idea of what I'm doing with it having been 'in the business' in a previous life but I suppose my concerns are that they'll look at it in terms of, well if she can still do her job she's not entitled. They should just see me trying to do it and the the amount I'm managing at the minute, my business has almost turned into therapy rather than a serious way to make a living, they should accept video evidence!

I've just started the ring round to get all the bits of paper from consultants etc and my GP has been very supportive but was gobsmacked when I rang the orthotist and apparently he doesn't write to anybody, so how do all the other health professionals know what's going on I ask myself!? I see him on Monday so I'll get something out of him somehow, he was quite impressed about the state of my feet, nice juicy case and all that, bit of a challenge etc and I'd like to know exactly what he thinks the problems are as well.

Hope you're doing well on the metho?

Sara

Hi sara ,

yeh i think i'm getting an improvement with the MTX :) we shall see :) as a i don't want to set myself up for a fall.

DLA is about personal care and mobility , and should not be affected by what you do at work , only include the report if it reinforces any aspect of your mobility or personal care .
For example , care needs are about your ability to look after yourself , with things such as washing dressing and cooking , and thus would mean things such as being able to move your arms about to wash your hair, to get in and out of a bath etc , to use your arms to dress yourself such as being able to do up buttons and move your arms to put a blouse on etc (including putting on shoes), being able to prepare a meal from fresh vegetables( ie dexterity , being able to grip tools ,lifting pans safely, hold and peel vegetables etc)

Bear in mind for physical aspects High rate mobility by definition is "Virtually unable to walk" but read the DLA fact sheet as above .Low rate mobility is normally associated with learning disabilities/mental health and depression.

Plus look at the NRAS guide HERE for more ideas

Hope this helps and remember that you can appeal any decision if you have grounds for disagreement within one month of the decision.

Rich X :)
